Location

Paria Springs Eco-Community is located in Trinidad. Trinidad lies most southern in the Caribbean, just off the coast of Venezuela. It is the most diverse West Indian Island, both in sheer biodiversity, natural habitats and culture. The island is unique in hosting flora and fauna typical of both the Caribbean Islands and of the South American mainland. The mountains of the Northern Range are possibly the eastern most expression of the Andes, are covered in dense rainforest, lowland forests and elfin woodlands.
Lying in the northern range of Trinidad in the village of Brasso Seco, Paria, Paria Springs is a 1¼-hour drive from Piarco International airport or two hours from the capital, Port of Spain. The drive takes you through the town of Arima, historically a Carib Amerindian settlement, and up into the heavily forested mountains of the Northern Range. On the northern (windward) side of the mountain range, the road winds descending towards the village of Brasso Seco, Paria, then to Paria Springs, nestled deep within the rainforest. Most of the lands bordering this beautiful estate are pristine rainforest. Host Home Accommodations are scattered throughout this village.
Accommodations are also provided at Grande Riverre, which is a secluded bay on the North Coast. To get there one has to drive to Trinidad's northeastern tip, to Toco, then west along the north coast to Grande Riverre. It is a long drive, but along the way one is regaled with stunning views of the rugged coastline. Grande Riverre is best known as a bay that hosts one of the world's densest populations of nesting sea turtles. Another accommodation outside of the Northern Range is the Mafekin Host Home located on the banks of the Otoire River on Trinidad's East Coast. This area is also home to Red-howler and Capuchin Monkeys, Manatees and many rare birds.
Future accommodations are also expected in Arima and Matura.
